National Hispanic Heritage Month

September 09, 2009 by willa

Bring out the Piñatas and the tres leches; it’s time to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month! From September 15 to October 15 Americans celebrate the history, culture and contributions of Latin-American citizens. It is a good time to stop and appreciate Hispanic influences in your own life. What with my husband’s virtually exclusive Hispanic heritage, this influence in my life is huge. I eat some form of Mexican food at least three times a week, and often hear Spanish spoken in my home. One of my favorite activities is watching Spanish Language films with my husband. Here are a few of our favorites that you might like to try as well: Pan’s Labyrinth, The Orphanage and Volver (directed by Pedro Almódovar). I am proud to say that Lincoln City Libraries owns all these movies. Oh, and if you only see one Spanish language film this month -see Pan’s Labyrinth.
